New Chinese Tennis Star Out of Australian Open Due to Wrist Injury

It’s unfortunate to hear that Zheng Jie, the rising star in tennis is outof the Australian Open today due to a left wrist injury. Zheng Jie injured herself while playing against Russia’s eighth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the fourth round. She fell to the ground while saving an awkward angled ball and injured her left wrist. She tried to come back to the game after some medical attention but gave up the match after a couple more games.

Zheng Jie is suppose to be the successor of the former Chinese legendary tennis player Li Na. It seems Belarussian Victoria Azarenka is also out of the Australian Open 2009 due to injury.

The following are some fact about the Chinese Tennis star, Zheng Jie:

- Zheng Jie is the first tennis player from China to reach a Grand Slam singles semi final in Wimbledon 2008.
- Zheng Jie defeated world no. 1 and tournament’s top seed Ana Ivanovic in Wimbledon 2008.
- Zheng Jie attended Wimbledon 2008 with world ranking of 133.
- Zheng Jie’s (partners with Yan Zi) doubles ranking is 22
- Zheng Jie  debuted in WTA rankings in 2000.
- Zheng Jie started playing professional tennis from 16 January 2003 and successfully ended the year in the top 100 of singles ranking.
- Zheng Jie won 11 WTA doubles titles in her career in total till date.
- Reaching 27th in WTA singles ranking has been Zheng Jie’s best ever ranking which came in 2006.
